Musician's Alert

AMP, through its Assistant Corporate Secretary, Atty. Jose Nelson Todas, has extended legal assistance to one of its regular members, Prof. Toti Molina, chairman of the U.P. string department.

Prof. Molina took it upon himself to act and speak on behalf of orchestra musicians who were hired by Mr. Joseph Uy, a classical music Impresario. For services rendered, Prof. Molina and the musicians were paid about PhP 650,000.00 in checks. These checks bounced and Joseph Uy made himself scarce. Prof. Molina then hired a lawyer, who unfortunately made matters worse and the judge hearing the case inclined to dismiss the case altogether.

Prof. Molina then brought the attention to AMP member Deo Dipasupil, and AMP Vice-Chairman John Lesaca. Mr Lesaca talked to Atty. Todas and he referred the matter to his classmate Atty. Melanio Cordillo.

Atty. Cordillo's brave efforts and supurb legal style resulted in the conviction of Mr. Joseph Uy. Unfortunately, this being his first conviction, Mr. Uy appealed the sentence and was given a slap on the wrist.

Nevertheless, Mr. Joseph Uy is still considered convicted.

This should serve as an example to both producers and musicians alike, and it is hoped that situations like these will not happen again in the future.
