AMP on Intellectual Property Rights

In the week of Jan. 11 - 14, The National library, in cooperation with the Intellectual Property office played host to seminars concerning the Intellectual Property Code (IPC). Gracing the occasion were foreign experts, namely Helga Tabuchi from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Bjorn - Juell Sundbye, from Gramex, Denmark and Samuel Shu Masuyama of Geidankyo, Japan.

The seminars and discussion centered on the function of the phonogram Producers and performers rights society of the Philippines (PPSP), headed by John Lesaca and the performers rights society of the Philippines (PRSP), headed by Mitch Valdez, as collective management societies in the Philippine entertainment industry. The discussions were indeed an eye opener for both local and foreign attendees.

Attending for AMP were Mr. Rodney Ambat, Prof. Leopoldo Lopez, Mr. Eliezer Hernandez, Mr John Lesaca and Mr. Mario Tolentino. Also present were director Adoracion Mendoza-Bolos of the national library, Dorothy Tadeo of Filscap, Danilo Olivares of Pari, Mitch Valdez of OPM, and Leo Martinez of the actors guild of the Philippines.

On the other hand, the intellectual property office, under director Emma Francisco, held a seminar on the intellectual property code of the Philippines at the IPO office of Makati. Attending for AMP was Eliezer Hernandez.

After all the discussion, we realized that a lot of work is still ahead of us, but we look forward with eagerness to AMP's role in the IPC and we wish all the best for the PPSP and PRSP. Our heart felt thanks also to the foreign experts, and to Director Adoracion Mendoza-Bolos and Director Emma Francisco. With the IPC in place, we can, slowly but surely, expect a more professional entertainment industry.
