Profiles: Prof. Leopoldo B. Lopez

Meet Prof. Leopoldo B. Lopez, a former principal horn player of the Manila Symphony Orchestra and Manila Chamber Orchestra. Leopoldo as we all know studied French horn under Manuel Estandarte at the University of the Philippines.

As a scholar of the John D. Rockfeller foundation, he took up further studies in French horn with Donald Thompson and completed an advanced course in French horn under Prof. Nicolaus Grueger under a special grant given to the Manila Symphony Orchestra by the German Cultural Center.

Leopoldo's career continued to shine as he toured Europe and America as ambassador of goodwill with the Filipinescas headed by the National Artist Leonor Coquinco. What's more, he became the former horn instructor of UST conservatory of Music and St. Scholastica Conservatory of Music, Vic-President of Pambansansang Samahan ng mga Banda sa Pilipinas PASAMBAP, Appointed as horn instructor at the Fifth ASEAN Music Workshop held in Bangkok, Thailand and 7th ASEAN Music Workshop held in Brunei, conductor and musical Director of Malaya Symphonic band, one of the oldest band in the Philippines organized in 1875.

At present, he is a member of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, at the same time, a faculty member of UP College of Music and is the Vice-President of Our foundation.
