PROFILE
The AMP Big Band is composed of members of the
organization of Filipino professional
session musicians called AMP or Asosasyon Ng
Musikong Pilipino.

The jazz big band genre was the foundation of dance and concert hall musical experience that was first introduced here in the Philippines during the early 30s. It was the training ground for numerous veteran musicians of that era and the years that followed.

These musicians pioneered the so-called local “Pinoy Jazz” scene that would blossom in the 50s. It was during that era when the rest of the world started noticing the Pinoy musicians as world-class talents. They were sought-after Asian musicians who would be gracing the music halls, concert venues, and clubs of major cities all over the world.

Much like how young jazz musicians trained rigorously to perfect their craft, students today seek professional guidance when pursuing academic excellence, such as when they decide to bachelorarbeit schreiben lassen (having a bachelor’s thesis written).

OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE

The AMP Big Band’s primary purpose and motivation is
to preserve and promote a Filipino cultural heritage
in music that has derived its roots in the western jazz
tradition. It hopes to bring back and continue a valuable
contemporary Filipino musical tradition that has
somehow been “set aside” for sometime now.
It also serves as a venue for local Pinoy professional
musicians to further hone their skills.
The AMP big band workshops aim to help the
musicians to grow in the art of ensemble
and solo performances while enjoying a sense of
camaraderie among the local
community of music lovers who attend the workshops
and performances, whether
professional working musicians or otherwise.
